Our take

My take on Pepperstone

Pepperstone started in Melbourne in 2010, and fifteen years on it has become one of the names you hear most when traders talk about where they execute. It answers to seven authorities, among them the FCA in the United Kingdom, ASIC in Australia and CySEC in Cyprus with EU passporting, and it opens up 1,200+ instruments across MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader and TradingView. What it does best is keep the cost of trading currencies low, with spreads from 0.0 pip on the Razor account, and it takes order automation further than almost anyone.

It suits a wide spread of traders. A beginner can open an account with no minimum deposit and learn on a free $50,000 demo; the moment I wired Expert Advisors, cTrader Automate and Capitalise.ai into live orders, fills came back in around 30 ms. That speed is the part you feel rather than read about. On Trustpilot the rating sits at 4.5/5 across more than 4,100 reviews under the Excellent label, and a score that high at this size is not easy to earn.

“For trading currencies cheaply under UK regulation, few names sit safer on the global stage than Pepperstone, and none push order automation further. ”

Safety & regulation

Is your money safe?

This is not an offshore shell. Pepperstone runs seven regulated entities, each answering to a serious watchdog. Pepperstone Limited sits in London under the FCA (no. 684312), Pepperstone Group Limited in Melbourne under ASIC (AFSL 414530), Pepperstone EU Limited in Limassol under CySEC (no. 388/20) for EU clients, and Pepperstone GmbH in Düsseldorf under BaFin (no. 151148), with the DFSA in Dubai, the SCB in the Bahamas and the CMA in Kenya rounding out the list. Client money sits in separate accounts at tier-1 banks, exactly as each regulator demands. Through the EU entities you get the ESMA rulebook most traders already know, with leverage capped at 1:30 for retail clients, negative balance protection and segregated assets. And two-factor authentication switches on from the secure client area in seconds.

The Razor account is where the pricing earns its reputation. EUR/USD spreads open at 0.0 pip and run around 0.1 pip on average, with a $3.50 commission per standard lot per side on MetaTrader and TradingView, $7 the round turn, and $3.00 per side on cTrader. That puts Pepperstone among the cheapest brokers in the world for trading currencies. Execution keeps up with it too, around 30 ms on average, an order fill rate above 99.9% and no dealing desk stepping in between you and the market.

The Standard account drops the commission for spreads from 1 pip, which fits the trader who places a handful of orders a month. There is no minimum deposit to open ($200 is a comfortable starting point), deposits are free, nothing is charged for sitting idle, and withdrawals go through free within one business day by card, bank transfer or PayPal. Ten account base currencies are on offer, so most clients fund their account and pay nothing in conversion.

The verdict

The verdict

What stays with me after putting Pepperstone through its paces is how little gets in the way. The Razor grid from 0.0 pip keeps the cost of trading currencies low, fills come back in around 30 ms, you pick from MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView, and when it comes to running orders on autopilot few brokers give you this much rope. Safety sits with the best global houses, with seven regulators behind it including the UK FCA and the European CySEC, money segregated at tier-1 banks and negative balance protection. Throw in no minimum deposit, a free $50,000 demo and an award-winning support team you can reach 24/7, and it doubles as a genuinely easy place to start out. The 4.5/5 Trustpilot rating across more than 4,100 reviews lines up with what our own testing found, a secure and well-known name traders trust worldwide.
