eToro: the social trading leader? My 2026 review
The social trading pioneer, copy the best investors in one click, with an unbeatable experience for getting started.
The beginner who wants to learn by copying experienced investors
Our take
My take on eToro
eToro started in 2007 with one idea most brokers had never tried to sell to a beginner: let people watch what good investors actually do, then copy it. That is social trading, and eToro built a whole platform around it. You follow other investors, mirror their portfolios automatically, drop into ready-made thematic baskets, and buy a slice of a share when a whole one is out of reach. The company went public on NASDAQ in 2025, which tells you how far that idea travelled.
I opened an account to see whether the simplicity holds up once real money is involved, and it does. The first screen does not bury you in order types or jargon. You see what others are buying, you see what it costs, and you can act in a tap. For someone learning the ropes, that clarity is the whole point, and eToro has spent fifteen years sharpening it.
Add direct crypto custody under a MiCA licence, interest on cash you have not invested yet, and Lloyd's cover up to $1M per client, and you have a platform that makes a first portfolio feel approachable without feeling flimsy. It is built for people who want to start, and it treats that goal seriously.
“eToro turned investing into something you can watch and learn, where you copy, you understand, and you grow into your own decisions. ”

Safety & regulation
Is your money safe?
eToro is not an offshore shell. In Europe the broker runs as eToro (Europe) Ltd under Cyprus's CySEC, a licence held since 2010, and the wider group also answers to the FCA in the UK and ASIC in Australia. Since May 2025 the company trades on NASDAQ, which puts its accounts under public-market scrutiny on top of the usual supervision. Client funds sit in segregated accounts, and on top of that comes Lloyd's insurance up to one million dollars per client, a layer most brokers simply do not carry. eToro also secured its MiCA licence in early 2025, the framework that now governs crypto across the European Union, so the coins you hold are covered by a real regime rather than left in a grey zone. Two-factor authentication switches on in a few seconds, and the Trustpilot score of about 4.2/5 across more than 30,000 reviews stands on one of the largest verified bases in the industry.

Fees & spreads
What does it really cost?
Its cost against the average of the brokers we track (shorter bar = cheaper).
The pricing is easy to read, which is half the battle. Since 2025 a stock order costs a flat $1, ETF purchases stay commission-free, and fractional shares mean you can put as little as a few dollars to work. Derivatives and crypto trade on spreads, 0.15% on stock derivatives and up to 1% on crypto. And the cash you have not invested yet quietly earns interest, up to around 3%, which is money most brokers keep for themselves.
The account is dollar-denominated, so it pays to know the two figures that go with that: a 1.5% currency conversion when you move in or out of another currency, and a flat $5 withdrawal from the USD account. There is also a $10 monthly inactivity fee that only kicks in after twelve full months without a login, so an investor who checks in now and then never meets it. These are fixed, published numbers, and once you trade and hold in dollars they barely register.
| Account | Min. deposit | Spread from | Commission |
|---|---|---|---|
| Securities account (USD) A single dollar account that brings together cash stocks, ETFs, direct crypto and copy trading. Uninvested cash earns interest, up to around 3%. | $50 | $1 per stock order, 0 on ETFs | Spreads on crypto and derivatives |
| Demo account $100,000 of virtual capital, unlimited, to practise every feature before going live. | Free | Real market conditions | None |

The range is wide and, more usefully, it is coherent. You get 7,000+ stocks and 900+ ETFs you actually own, more than 130 cryptocurrencies held directly rather than as derivatives, 65 currency pairs, plus commodity and index derivatives for shorter-term plays. The piece that is hard to find anywhere else is the social layer: over a hundred thematic Smart Portfolios that hand you exposure to a whole sector, from AI to energy, in a single investment.
It all lives in one dollar securities account, which is what makes eToro click for the way most people actually invest. Your stocks, your ETFs, the crypto you hold for the long run and the investors you copy share the same screen. If you want copy trading and direct crypto in one place, this is where eToro is at its best.

The verdict
The verdict
eToro set out to make a first portfolio feel possible, and after spending time inside the platform I think it pulls that off better than anyone. The interface stays out of your way, copy trading turns experienced investors into something you can learn from instead of guess at, and fractional shares let you start with whatever you have. None of it asks you to read a manual first.
What I keep coming back to is how much sits under one roof. Real stocks and ETFs, crypto you genuinely hold under a MiCA licence, Smart Portfolios for a theme you believe in, and the social feed that ties it together, all in the same dollar account and all behind CySEC oversight with Lloyd's cover up to $1M per client. The 9.6/10 reflects exactly that: a platform that makes getting started simple and then keeps giving you room to grow into it.

Yes. In Europe eToro is run by eToro (Europe) Ltd, regulated by CySEC since 2010, and NASDAQ-listed since 2025. Client holdings sit behind Lloyd's insurance up to $1M per client, and Trustpilot puts it around 4.2/5 across more than 30,000 reviews.

Social trading is what sets it apart. You can copy experienced investors' portfolios automatically, buy fractional shares from a few dollars, and hold crypto directly, all from one interface built for people starting out.
What are the fees at eToro?

Anyone who wants to learn by copying seasoned investors and reach crypto and fractional shares without a steep learning curve. That beginner-first design is exactly where eToro is strongest.
