Our take

My take on XTB

XTB started in Warsaw in 2002 and now trades on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, with hundreds of thousands of clients spread across Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. What put it on the map was a simple, loud idea: 0% commission on stocks and ETFs, up to $100,000 of trades a month. That pricing reset what a lot of retail investors thought they had to pay to own shares.

The first thing I noticed signing in is how little gets in the way. The fees are about as low as they come, xStation is genuinely pleasant to use rather than a chore, and the education and research run deep enough that you keep coming back to them. It is rare to find all three sitting together at this price, and that is exactly why XTB earns its place here.

“0% commission on stocks and ETFs, an award-winning platform and multi-regulator oversight, all in one place. Few low-cost brokers pull off that combination as cleanly as XTB.

Safety & regulation

Is your money safe?

XTB is no offshore shell. It runs as a multi-entity group authorised in several serious jurisdictions, starting with Poland's KNF, its home regulator, then the UK's FCA, CySEC in Cyprus and the DFSA in Dubai. Spreading oversight that wide is unusual for a broker that charges so little, and it is a big part of why I trust it for an international audience. The protections you would want are all in place. Client money sits in segregated accounts, negative balance protection covers leveraged products, and two-factor authentication takes seconds to switch on. The Trustpilot rating, around 4/5, lines up with what clients say day to day.

The pricing is where XTB really shows off. You pay 0% commission on stocks and ETFs up to $100,000 of trades a month, and only 0.2% beyond that (minimum $10). Withdrawals cost nothing, the minimum deposit is a token $1, so there is no real barrier to opening an account, and any cash you leave uninvested earns interest at a competitive rate.

Two figures are worth filing away, both common to international brokers. There is a 0.5% currency conversion when you trade a market priced outside your account's base currency, and a $10/month inactivity fee that only kicks in after a full year without a transaction. For anyone who invests with any regularity, the running cost stays among the lightest I have seen.

The reach here is wide. You can own more than 7,000 stocks and 1,900 ETFs outright, and on top of that sits a deep bench of leveraged products: 2,000+ stock derivatives, 71 currency pairs, 27 commodities, indices and around forty cryptocurrencies through derivatives. It all runs through xStation, an award-winning platform that traders keep praising for how much it does and how cleanly it does it.

Crypto exposure goes through derivatives rather than direct custody, which is worth knowing before you size a position. Beyond that, the catalogue covers far more ground than most stock and ETF strategies will ever need, and the thousands of real holdings on offer leave plenty of room to build whatever portfolio you have in mind.

The verdict

The verdict

XTB is one of the names I measure other brokers against. Put 0% commission on stocks and ETFs next to a multi-regulator footprint and an award-winning in-house platform, and you get something that serves the long-term investor and the active trader equally well, without asking either to compromise.

Our 9.0/10 rating reflects just how hard that mix is to beat on cost. If your plan is to build a low-cost, commission-free portfolio of stocks and ETFs, XTB sits right at the top of our selection, and after using it I understand why it keeps ending up there.
