Eightcap: one of the lowest-cost brokers in our Ireland comparison? My 2026 review

The cost-focused broker in our Ireland comparison: European clients onboard with Eightcap EU in Cyprus under CySEC, so the ESMA rulebook applies in full, with Raw spreads from 0.0 pip on EUR/USD and a $3.5 per-lot commission.

The Irish trader who wants the lowest cost per round trip on an EU-regulated account

Our take

My take on Eightcap

Eightcap is a pricing grid before it is anything else, and for an Irish trader the first question is which company sells that grid. The answer is Eightcap EU in Cyprus, the CySEC-licensed entity European clients are onboarded with. That settles most of what matters: the ESMA rulebook applies to your account exactly as it does anywhere else in the single market, so retail leverage on currencies stops at 1:30, negative balance protection is in place, and client money sits in segregated accounts at tier-1 banks. What it does not give you is an Irish authorisation. The Central Bank of Ireland does not supervise the entity you contract with, and in our Ireland comparison that distinction belongs to AvaTrade, which holds one through AVA Trade EU Ltd.

Underneath the licence sits the reason to look past that missing Irish authorisation: our editorial team rates it 4.8 and tags it one of the lowest-cost names we track in Ireland. On the Raw account, EUR/USD starts at 0.0 pip with a $3.5 commission per standard lot, $7 the round turn, while USD/JPY and GBP/USD sit at 0.1 pip. There is no in-house platform to learn, because everything runs on MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and a direct TradingView connection.

One line in the budget deserves attention before you go further. Eightcap quotes in dollars and the accounts Irish clients fund are dollar accounts, while your salary, your bills and your Revenue return are all in euro. Funding one runs a conversion of 0.5% to 1% depending on the method, a cost the headline spread does not show. Beyond that the picture is clean: no inactivity fee, free withdrawals inside 24 hours, a $100 minimum deposit and a free 30-day demo account. Trustpilot shows 4.0/5 across more than 3,100 reviews.

“For an Irish trader the trade-off is clean: an EU-passported CySEC entity with the full ESMA rulebook, Raw spreads from 0.0 pip, and a dollar account to fund from a euro bank. ”

Safety & regulation

Is your money safe?

Eightcap is no offshore shell, and for an Irish resident the relevant part of the structure is the European one. Clients in the EU are onboarded with Eightcap EU in Cyprus, licensed by CySEC and passported into Ireland under the single market rules. That passport is what makes the account available here, and it is also the limit of the arrangement: the supervisor of your counterparty is CySEC, not the Central Bank of Ireland, and the scheme that would answer for a claim is the Cypriot Investor Compensation Fund attached to that entity, not the Irish Investor Compensation Scheme that stands behind a firm authorised in Dublin. If a home-regulator licence is a condition rather than a preference, the name to compare in our Ireland comparison is AvaTrade: its European entity, AVA Trade EU Ltd, is authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland, with Irish Investor Compensation Scheme cover up to EUR 20,000, alongside CySEC, ASIC and FSA oversight of the group. What the CySEC licence does bring is the ESMA rulebook in full. A retail account is capped at 1:30 on currency pairs and 1:2 on crypto derivatives, negative balance protection stops a position pushing the balance below zero, and client money sits at tier-1 institutions in accounts separate from the firm's own books. The same rulebook explains an absence that puzzles new arrivals: there is no welcome bonus for retail clients, because ESMA does not allow one. Two-factor authentication switches on in seconds. The wider group runs on several regulated entities: Eightcap Pty Ltd in Australia under ASIC (no. 391441), Eightcap (UK) Ltd under the FCA (no. 921296) for British residents, and Eightcap Global Limited in the Bahamas under the SCB for international clients. Those licences are worth knowing about, but none of them governs an Irish account. Check your onboarding paperwork and you should see Eightcap EU: that is the company whose terms, protections and complaints route apply to you.

Two grids, one decision. Raw: EUR/USD from 0.0 pip against a commission of $3.5 a standard lot, $7 there and back; 0.1 pip on USD/JPY, GBP/USD and gold; 0.03 pip on WTI crude; 12 pips on BTC/USD; share derivatives at $0.02 a share subject to a $4 floor per order. Standard: no commission, spreads opening at 1 pip on EUR/USD. Around both grids there is very little else: deposits cost nothing, no inactivity fee applies at any point, and a withdrawal is paid out inside 24 hours free of charge, by transfer, card, e-wallet or crypto.

The euro side of the equation is where an Irish account parts company with those headline numbers. Eightcap quotes and bills in dollars, and the accounts Irish clients fund are dollar accounts, so moving money in from a euro bank costs between 0.5% and 1% depending on the method. That charge follows the size of the transfer rather than the number of trades, so fewer and larger movements dilute it, and it belongs in your calculation next to the commission rather than being forgotten because the spread reads zero. For an active trader the arithmetic still lands well: ten standard lots a month on the majors costs roughly $35 in Raw commissions against roughly $100 in Standard spreads, and the Raw account becomes worthwhile from around 3 to 5 lots a month.

Irish tax gets one short pointer, no more. Our Irish capital gains calculator covers direct holdings: shares and crypto within CGT at 33% on the gain above the annual personal exemption of EUR 1,270, and Irish and other EU UCITS funds and ETFs under exit tax at 41% with a deemed disposal every eight years. It does not model leveraged derivative positions. How a trading account of this kind should be declared is a question for Revenue or a qualified adviser, and nothing here is tax advice.

Real-world scenarios

Real-world scenarios

Three trader profiles and their monthly cost.

  1. Beginner trader, 2 trades/month on EUR/USD

30-day demo account then a $100 deposit on the Standard account. 2 round-turn trades of 0.1 lot on EUR/USD, average spread 1.0 pip.

Monthly cost ≈ $2, no inactivity fees, no withdrawal fees. The Standard account is the right choice below 5 lots/month.

  2. Intermediate trader, 10 lots/month on majors

Raw ECN account with a $500 initial deposit. 10 standard lots on EUR/USD and GBP/USD, Raw spread 0.0 to 0.1 pip + $3.5/lot commission.

Monthly cost ≈ $35 in commissions on Raw vs ≈ $100 in spread on Standard. The Raw account becomes worthwhile from 3-5 lots/month on the majors.

  3. Active trader, 50 lots/month multi-asset

Raw account + MQL5 automation. 50 lots/month split across Forex + indices + gold, free VPS execution from 5 lots/month.

Total cost ≈ $175/month in commissions. Equivalent to 30 to 40% less than a mainstream proprietary broker on the same volume.

Instruments & markets covered

Instruments & markets covered

Eight hundred and some instruments, all of them built for trading rather than holding. The catalogue an Irish client reaches is the international one: 40+ currency pairs, 15+ major indices where the DAX 40 and the CAC 40 sit alongside the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, more than 600 share derivatives on US and European names (Microsoft, Apple, LVMH, Tesla), a clutch of ETFs traded as derivatives (SPY, QQQ, VXX), 10+ commodities from gold and silver to oil and natural gas, and crypto pairs from Bitcoin to Solana. None of it carries a voting right or pays a dividend in cash, though a long position still takes an adjustment when it runs past an ex-dividend date.

The ESMA caps then decide what those instruments can actually do in an Irish retail account. Currency pairs stop at 1:30 and crypto at 1:2, which makes the crypto side a small speculative allocation rather than a leveraged strategy, with no staking, no wallet and no lending behind it. A swap-free (Islamic) account is available on request after validation, with the commission the same as the base account and the spread depending on which base account you open it against.

What is missing matters as much as what is there: no cash securities account, no bonds, and no way to hold a UCITS ETF or a real share. An Irish investor building a long-term euro portfolio is looking at a different tool, and in our Ireland comparison that is XTB, at 0% commission on real stocks and ETFs on its own xStation 5 platform, or Bitpanda for crypto you actually own, with staking on a range of coins and a MiCAR licence in the EU. Eightcap sits on the trading side of that divide and is strong there: Expert Advisors on MT4 and MT5, the MQL5 API, depth of market on MT5, a free VPS from 5 lots a month, copy trading through public TradingView signals, and a free 30-day demo to rehearse all of it before the first euro moves.

Who this broker is for

Who this broker is for

  1. Irish resident who wants EU protections at the lowest cost

You contract with Eightcap EU in Cyprus under CySEC, so the ESMA rulebook applies in full: 1:30 retail leverage on forex, negative balance protection, client money segregated at tier-1 banks. There is no Central Bank of Ireland authorisation, so if a home-regulator licence is a condition rather than a preference, compare against AvaTrade.

  2. Active forex or index trader in Ireland

Raw spreads from 0.0 pip on EUR/USD, 0.1 pip on USD/JPY, GBP/USD and gold, $3.5 per standard lot, the DAX 40 and CAC 40 alongside the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, and automation through Expert Advisors, the MQL5 API and TradingView. Worthwhile from 3 to 5 lots a month on the majors.

  3. Long-term investor building a euro portfolio

A poor fit, and worth saying plainly. Everything here is a derivative, so there is no direct holding of a share or a UCITS ETF and no euro securities account. Look instead at XTB and its 0% commission on real stocks and ETFs, keeping in mind that Irish and EU UCITS funds sit under exit tax at 41% with an eight-year deemed disposal.

The verdict

The verdict

The case for Eightcap in Ireland is a budget line rather than a feeling. The Raw grid bills a commission and very little else: fifty standard lots a month split across forex, indices and gold come to around $175 in commission, with no inactivity fee and no withdrawal fee underneath that figure. Our editorial team rates it 4.8 and lists it among the cheapest names in our Ireland comparison. What an Irish client weighs against that is not the software, which is MetaTrader and TradingView here as everywhere, but two structural facts: the account is denominated in dollars and funded from a euro bank, and the firm behind it answers to CySEC rather than to the Central Bank of Ireland.

Take the licence first. An Irish client contracts with Eightcap EU in Cyprus, so every ESMA protection is present, but the supervisor is CySEC and the compensation scheme attached to the account is the Cypriot one. If that is a condition rather than a preference, AvaTrade is authorised in Dublin and is also the gentler first account, with its academy and copy trading. Then the currency: funding a dollar account from a euro bank costs 0.5% to 1% depending on the method, which on modest volumes can outweigh the spread you came for. And everything here is a derivative, so the long-term investor who wants to own real shares or ETFs belongs at XTB and its 0% commission, or at Bitpanda for crypto held rather than traded.

Support and documentation are mainly in English, a limitation in most of our European comparisons and simply not one in Ireland. Trustpilot shows 4.0/5 across more than 3,100 reviews, with fast execution the recurring praise and a handful of disputed withdrawals the recurring complaint, so keep your records tidy and expect verification to take its time. Leveraged trading carries a high risk of capital loss whatever the licence. For an Irish trader whose single priority is the cost of a round trip on an EU-regulated account, this is the one we would open, and the free 30-day demo lets you test the strategy at full scale first.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ Eightcap

Is Eightcap reliable?

Yes. European clients, Ireland included, are onboarded with Eightcap EU in Cyprus under a CySEC licence passported into the single market, within a group that also runs Eightcap Pty Ltd under ASIC (no. 391441), Eightcap (UK) Ltd under the FCA (no. 921296) and Eightcap Global Limited under the SCB. The ESMA rulebook therefore covers an Irish account: 1:30 retail leverage on forex, negative balance protection, client money segregated at tier-1 banks. There is no Central Bank of Ireland authorisation, which in our Ireland comparison belongs to AvaTrade. Trustpilot shows 4.0/5 across more than 3,100 reviews.

Why choose Eightcap?

For cost, on an account that keeps the EU protections. Our editorial team rates Eightcap 4.8 and lists it among the lowest-cost brokers in our Ireland comparison: Raw spreads from 0.0 pip on EUR/USD with $3.5 per standard lot, no inactivity fee, free withdrawals inside 24 hours, and MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and a direct TradingView connection.

What are the fees at Eightcap?

Raw account: from 0.0 pip on EUR/USD with $3.5 per lot ($7 the round turn), 0.1 pip on USD/JPY, GBP/USD and gold. Standard account: from 1 pip, commission-free. Share derivatives on Raw cost $0.02 per share with a $4 minimum. No inactivity or withdrawal fees, and a $100 minimum deposit. The Irish-specific line to add: accounts are denominated in dollars, so funding from a euro bank runs a conversion of 0.5% to 1% depending on the method.

Who is Eightcap for?

Any profile with a trading focus. Beginners get a free 30-day demo account and no hidden fees; intermediate traders get the Raw grid, worthwhile from 3 to 5 lots a month on the majors; advanced traders get the MQL5 API, depth of market, a free VPS from 5 lots a month and native TradingView. The buy-and-hold investor should look elsewhere, since nothing here confers direct ownership.

Is it easy to withdraw from Eightcap?

Yes. Withdrawals are free and processed within 24 hours by bank transfer, card, e-wallet or crypto. The account itself runs in dollars while an Irish bank account runs in euro, so consolidating withdrawals rather than taking small ones keeps any conversion cost down.
