Our take

My take on Pocket Option

Pocket Option is an offshore trading platform, and for a Canadian investor that is the headline, not a footnote. Launched in 2017 and operated by Gembell Limited from the Marshall Islands, it offers forex, CFDs on stocks, indices and commodities, cryptocurrency CFDs and binary options through a slick proprietary platform, with a $50 entry point and integrated copy trading.

We review it as a reference, not a HelloBrokers partner, and the score reflects a split personality. The platform and the trading experience are genuinely capable, with strong user ratings. But it is not regulated in Canada: there is no CIRO registration and no CIPF protection, leverage runs as high as 1:1000, and users have reported withdrawal difficulties. For a Canadian, that regulatory gap is the decisive factor.

“A polished, low-cost offshore platform, but with no Canadian regulation, no CIPF protection and leverage up to 1:1000.

Safety & regulation

Is your money safe?

Pocket Option is operated by Gembell Limited and holds a licence from the Mwali International Services Authority (MISA) in the Marshall Islands. That is an offshore licence, and the level of oversight it implies is far below what a Canadian investor gets from a CIRO-registered dealer. Critically, Pocket Option is not registered with CIRO and is not regulated in Canada. Client funds are not covered by the Canadian Investor Protection Fund, and as an offshore provider it does not handle Canadian tax reporting: you would have to declare any gains to the CRA yourself. This is not tax advice. For a Canadian investor, the absence of domestic regulation is the single most important thing to weigh here.

Fees & spreads

What does it really cost?

On paper the cost is competitive. There is no commission on CFDs, with spreads from 1.0 pip on EUR/USD and 1.5% on crypto CFDs, and copy trading costs $0.50 per replicated trade. Account opening is free, and deposits and withdrawals carry no platform fee beyond any charge from the third-party payment provider.

The minimum deposit is a low $50 USD, which is part of the appeal to newer traders. But low headline costs sit alongside a serious caveat: reported withdrawal difficulties mean the real friction may be getting money out rather than the spread going in. Pricing should be read together with the regulatory picture, not on its own.

Instruments & markets covered

Instruments & markets covered

The catalogue runs to more than 100 instruments: 30+ forex pairs, CFDs on stocks, indices and commodities, cryptocurrency CFDs and binary options, all on a proprietary web, mobile and desktop platform with integrated copy trading and a free unlimited demo. For an active short-term trader, the toolkit is well built.

Two things to be clear about. There is no true spot investing here: you are trading leveraged derivatives, not owning stocks, and there is no staking or crypto wallet. And binary options, offered here, are a high-risk product restricted or banned for retail clients in several regulated markets. This is a speculative trading platform, not a place to build a long-term portfolio.

Who this broker is for

Who this broker is for

  1. Active short-term CFD trader

The proprietary platform, copy trading and low $50 entry suit a speculative trader, provided they accept an offshore, unregulated-in-Canada setup.

  2. Canadian investor seeking protection

This profile is poorly served: with no CIRO registration and no CIPF coverage, a regulated broker is the safer choice.

  3. Long-term portfolio builder

Pocket Option offers leveraged derivatives, not real stocks or registered accounts; a CIRO-regulated broker fits a buy-and-hold portfolio.

The verdict

The verdict

Pocket Option is a capable offshore trading platform with a low entry point, a polished app and strong user ratings, and our score credits that. But for a Canadian investor the regulatory gap dominates: no CIRO registration, no CIPF protection, leverage up to 1:1000 and reported withdrawal complaints.

As a reference review we place no affiliate link here. If you want the CFD or forex style of trading, we would steer you toward a broker with recognised regulation; if you want to build a Canadian portfolio in real stocks and ETFs inside registered accounts, compare the CIRO-regulated brokers in our comparison instead.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ Pocket Option

Is Pocket Option reliable?

No, not for Canadian investors in the regulatory sense. Pocket Option is operated by Gembell Limited under an offshore MISA licence (Marshall Islands); it is not registered with CIRO and client funds are not covered by CIPF.

Why choose Pocket Option?

For its low $50 entry point, a polished proprietary platform across web, mobile and desktop, integrated copy trading and a free unlimited demo. The trade-off is the absence of Canadian regulation.

What are the fees at Pocket Option?

There is no CFD commission; spreads start at 1.0 pip on EUR/USD and 1.5% on crypto CFDs, and copy trading costs $0.50 per replicated trade. Deposits and withdrawals carry no platform fee, but users have reported withdrawal difficulties.

Who is Pocket Option for?

Active short-term CFD and forex traders who accept an offshore setup. It is not suited to Canadian investors who want CIPF protection or to anyone building a long-term portfolio in real stocks.

Is it easy to withdraw from Pocket Option?

Withdrawals carry no platform fee beyond third-party provider charges, but this is the most cited concern in user reviews, with reported difficulties getting funds out. Weigh that carefully before depositing.
