Bull Bitcoin: non-custodial Bitcoin-only platform for Canadians? My 2026 review
A Bitcoin-only, non-custodial platform built around fee transparency and self-custody for Canadian users.
Our take
My take on Bull Bitcoin
Bull Bitcoin is a Canadian platform that does one thing on purpose: it lets you buy and sell Bitcoin, and nothing else. Launched in 2013 as Bylls and based in Montreal, it is registered as a Money Services Business with FINTRAC (CANAFE) in Canada and holds a PSAN registration with the AMF in France. Its guiding idea is self-sovereignty: coins are delivered straight to a wallet you control rather than held on the platform.
That non-custodial model is the whole point, and it shapes the experience. There is no order book, no altcoins and no staking; you pay an all-inclusive spread of roughly 1.5% to 2% and the bitcoin lands in your own wallet, on-chain or over Lightning or Liquid. We list Bull Bitcoin as a reference review rather than a partner. It is a strong fit for a Bitcoin-only holder who values custody and transparency, and a poor fit for anyone who wants a diversified crypto portfolio or a custodial one-stop exchange.
Why trust HelloBrokers?
This review is not a copy-paste of Bull Bitcoin's marketing page. We tested the platforms, modelled the cost of a typical trade down to the pip, and benchmarked Bull Bitcoin against the 4 brokers in our comparison. A broker is judged on verifiable figures, not marketing promises.

Safety & regulation
Is your money safe?
Bull Bitcoin operates as a registered Money Services Business with FINTRAC (CANAFE), Canada's financial-intelligence and MSB regulator, under registration #M16730720, and holds a PSAN registration with the AMF in France (E21-014). In the Canadian framework, crypto is not legal tender and crypto platforms register provincially and federally rather than sitting inside the full securities-dealer regime. The key point for a Canadian user is custody. Bull Bitcoin is non-custodial: it does not hold your bitcoin, so there is no pooled balance to fail and no CIPF (FCPE) protection, because self-custodied crypto falls outside that scheme. The trade-off is that security rests on how well you protect your own wallet and keys. Gains are generally taxable and you must declare them to the CRA yourself. This is not tax advice.

Fees & spreads
What does it really cost?
Bull Bitcoin charges a single, all-inclusive spread of about 1.5% to 2% on each buy or sell, with no separate commission and no hidden markup layered on top. Deposits by Interac e-Transfer and bank transfer are free, as are on-chain, Lightning and Liquid withdrawals; only Canada Post cash withdrawals carry a 2.50 to 3.50 CAD fee. There is no account maintenance or inactivity fee.
That spread runs a touch higher than the headline maker/taker fees of the large international exchanges, but the model is honest: what you see is what you pay, and there is no cost to move your bitcoin off the platform. For a buy-and-hold Canadian who withdraws to self-custody, the total cost of ownership is often competitive despite the wider spread.
Instruments & markets covered
Instruments & markets covered
The catalogue is deliberately narrow: Bitcoin, and only Bitcoin. You can transact on-chain, over the Lightning Network for fast low-value payments, or on the Liquid Network. There are no altcoins, no stablecoins, no ETFs and no derivatives.
Alongside buying and selling, Bull Bitcoin offers a recurring-buy (DCA) option and the Bylls bill-payment service, which lets you settle Canadian bills funded in bitcoin. It is a tool for accumulating and using Bitcoin under your own custody, not a venue for active multi-asset trading.

Who this broker is for
Who this broker is for
-
Long-term Bitcoin holder
The non-custodial model and clear spread suit someone who buys Bitcoin to hold in their own wallet rather than trade actively.
-
Self-custody advocate
Coins are delivered straight to a wallet you control, with no platform custody, which is exactly what this profile wants.
-
Investor wanting a diversified crypto portfolio
Poorly served here: with Bitcoin as the only asset, a multi-asset regulated exchange such as Bitbuy is a better starting point.
Comparison
Bull Bitcoin vs the alternatives
The right choice depends on your profile. Here is how Bull Bitcoin stands against the brokers we feature.

The verdict
Bull Bitcoin earns its score on transparency and self-custody rather than breadth. If your plan is to stack Bitcoin, keep your own keys and pay a clear, all-inclusive spread, it is one of the most principled options available to a Canadian user, and the FINTRAC and AMF registrations back that up.
As a reference review we do not carry an affiliate link. If you want a diversified, regulated Canadian exchange with staking and a wider asset list, a CIRO-registered platform such as Bitbuy will fit better; the compromise there is custodial holding rather than self-custody. Our score reflects a focused, honest product that trades breadth for sovereignty.
